In March of 2009, I had a physical at the VA and could not believe the scale. It read 232, and I am 5’7”.  I was turning 40 and was in the poorest shape of my life. I came to the realization that I was fat.

Being in the medical profession, I thought about what kind of example I was setting. I told myself I needed to change my life.  Don’t diet – change your life. I had a treadmill in the basement that I did not use. I started walking first, then walking with light weights, then added running. Even one mile was tough in the beginning. Once the weather improved, I started to run on the Munger Trail. Two miles seemed good at the start. Now I am running four to 10 miles at least every other day, averaging six miles. I feel great. Changes to my eating habits included eating more fruits and veggies.

Within about six months, I lost 30 pounds. I have run a few 5K races and simply feel wonderful. I don’t get out of breath with simple tasks.  If I can do it, anyone can. Try thinking: Change your Lifestyle.  I found it to be much easier when I thought about it in this way.
