At the end of 2008, I had a doctor’s appointment with labs and the results were not good. My total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides were all elevated and I was overweight at 5’11” and 232 lbs. I made a follow-up lab appointment for 3 months later as I was determined to make a change for the better and improve my numbers.
For the first 30 days, I simply made better food choices and controlled my portions to limit my tendency to overeat. I lost 8 lbs. just doing that! I then began an exercise program consisting of mainly cardio work. I continued to lose about 8-10 lbs./month and at my next lab appointment, my labs had returned to normal! Once the weather warmed up, I began a jogging program and worked my way up to jogging 3.2 miles 3-4 times weekly! Currently, I’m doing a weight training program along with continuing with the cardio work. I’ve lost 50 lbs. and I feel great! My wife has gotten into exercising as well and I feel we are setting a better example for our kids to follow!
