Hello!  My name is Kristy and this is my do story. I’m a just regular mom. Busy like most, taking care of two boys and a husband. With working full time, kids’ sporting events, school activities, little by little, life got away from me. I hadn’t even noticed what years of juggling a family and an executive lifestyle had done to my mind and body. A year ago, my 9-year-old son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. He was hospitalized and very sick. Daily life became a series of ups and downs, managing the constant battle of maintaining Eli’s blood sugar to keep him healthy. Shortly after Eli’s diagnosis, I lost my job of eight years. A job I loved and still miss today.

With all of the uncertainty in our lives, one thing was sure. The only thing that I had control over was my body. In order to weather the storms, I needed to feel good about myself again. I made a pact that I’d get on the move. First, I modeled my entire family’s diet after my diabetic son. Not a fad diet - just eating smart and healthy. It wasn’t easy … but we’ve made the transition.

Secondly, I began my quest to move more. I started walking around the neighborhood daily. Then one day, I decided to jog. Not far – I could barely make it down the cul-de-sac. It felt great. Such a small accomplishment, but I could feel the results almost immediately. Then, day-by-day, I would walk a block and run a block. Now, after six months, I run between five and 10 miles a day. Today, I’m six dress sizes smaller, I reduced the stress in my life and I feel fantastic. All of this just by making a few simple changes.

Don’t wait for life-changing events to change yourself. I changed my body, one block at a time.
