Submitting Stories

Why is Blue Cross putting real people in the do campaign?

Losing weight and building a healthier lifestyle can seem overwhelming, and we want you to know you aren’t alone. We want to share how Minnesotans are doing it. It’s more than the guy dancing in the doctor’s office. Real life stories inspire us all. We can see our friends, family, and neighbors becoming part of do.

Who can submit a story?

Any adult Minnesotan who’s making changes to improve their health, to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, by increasing physical activity and eating better.

Is there an alternative way to submit my story?

No, all stories must be submitted online to be considered for the do campaign.

How long should my story be?

As long as it takes to tell! We recommend that you focus on what motivated you to take action, the specific activities that helped you to lose weight, and the results you’ve seen from making a change.

What should my story be about?

Tell us how you reached a healthy weight by increasing your physical activity and/or changing eating habits. If you’re stumped, start at the beginning. What motivated you? How did you get started? What did you do? What has been the toughest part of losing weight or keeping up the good work? Did your friends or family play a role? Did you start with a friend or a neighbor? Is your workplace supportive of your healthy choices? Are you going to some classes or participating in a new sport? Share some of the specifics: do you research nutrition information before going to a restaurant, walk at lunch every day, read nutrition labels at the grocery store? Have you noticed things around you that support your health like walking or bike paths and sidewalks, healthier food choices? Has the weight loss changed your life and how you feel about yourself? We want to know all the details!

What kind of activity counts?

Anything that raises your heart rate and helps you eat better. Maybe it’s a walk before dinner, carrots instead of cookies, or playing in a local sports league — whatever you do to move more and eat better.

Please Note: Your weight loss story should not involve branded food programs or “fad” diets. If you lost weight the “natural” way, absolutely — tell us how you changed your eating habits.

Why edit?

Your story will be reviewed for spelling and grammar errors as well as whether it meets our requirements. If necessary, we reserve the right to omit parts of your story to better fit with our focus.

What if I change my mind and no longer want the story posted? Can it be removed?

Sure. Just go to the contact section and email us. Please state in the email your first and last name and let us know that you would like to story removed. Allow up to a week for the change to occur.

Selecting Stories

What can I do to increase my chances of being selected?

We will review every entry and choose the stories that best represent the spirit of the do real people campaign.  By doing the right things — increasing your activity level and eating healthier — you will certainly be considered.

Will there be physical considerations when selecting people to be a part of the campaign?

Our ultimate goal is to find people who have lost weight by moving more or eating better, regardless of what they look like today. We will select Minnesotans of all shapes and sizes, and will consider those who have made modest changes and lost small amounts of weight, as well as those who have lost considerable amounts.

What if my story wasn’t selected?

If we don’t use your story for a commercial, we’d like to use it online to inspire others to move more and eat better!

What will happen if my story is chosen to be used in a commercial or posted to the web?

We will contact you for an interview to be a part of the next do campaign commercials. If you’re ultimately selected for the commercial, you’ll be invited to join us in the studio to shoot a television spot featuring your story. If your story is chosen to be highlighted on the web, it will be edited and you’ll receive an email when it’is posted.

Why wasn’t my story chosen?

We may not be able to post all the stories we receive. We are looking for stories that best showcase safe weight loss and the do philosophy that moving more and eating better can be a fun part of everyday life. We can only post stories from Minnesota residents. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota staff members reserve the right to determine which stories are and are not posted.
