Day 14 Re-Cap
March 31, 2011
DAY 14,
Started out with a great morning walk. I cannot tell you enough how much walking has changed my life already! It really does start my day. I am so energized after my walk. This morning I met a nice woman named Teena. She had been following me on line and decided to stop down and see the “guy in the Box”. We walked and talked for about 1 hour 15 minutes. She was in town from Wisconsin with her husband and kids whom i met a few hours later. Thanks Teena for the good company! And good luck truing for your upcoming Marathon!
I then met with a personal trainer named Scott, great guy. He walked me through a walk/jog/run tutorial. I thought it would be good knowledge to have for when i leave the BOX. I was surprised to learn that walking can burn as many calories as running when going the same distance. One just takes you longer. And that i should not be in a hurry to start running. Walking is great exercise! Wohoo! And i like it. In 8 days I will be doing Goldy’s 5k RUN (I will be walking) so looking forward to it!
Went through my first interval cardio workout with Theresa, a fitness trainer from BRX Fitness. This was a different kind of cardio workout, it was hard. The point of interval cardio training (when you start) is to get your heart rate up for 1 minute and bring it back down for 2 minutes. Then repeat that cycle for a total of 30 minutes. But here is the key, try to keep moving. You can slow down, but don’t stop moving. Take a break when you need to or if you feel light headed. Listen to your body.
Interval cardio training is a good thing to mix into your workout at least 2 times a week. Note to self, Need to pick up some cross training tennis shoes for interval training.
Shortly after my cardio session, i went out to buy some cross trainers, tennis shoes more geared toward side to side movement. I could tell the difference right away when i played nerve basket ball. Thanks Justin @ Nike.
Finished up my day with a really healthy meal. Just Broccoli and Portobello mushrooms. Don’t ask me why. its what i was craving. go figure.
This eating healthy food thing is growing on me…
